Artistic Residencies
Oriente Occidente Studio is a great space for artist residencies and each year we host artists and companies who come here to study and unleash their creative talents.
Oriente Occidente Studio is part of the broader Regional residency centre of Trentino Alto Adige/Südtirol, PASSO NORD together with Centrale Fies, Compagnia Abbondanza/Bertoni, Cooperativa Teatrale Prometeo and Teatro Cristallo.
Many artists have come and gone over the years, making the most of their artist residency experience and time at Oriente Occidente Studio to rehearse, study and work.
Some of them have been for a while or still are our associate artists.
In These Wilds Beyond Our Fences: Letters to My Daughter on Humanity’s Search for Home, philosopher Bayo Akomolafe seeks to chart a map through which to orient a possible reading of the world for his daughter Althea, suspended between her mother’s Indian cultural heritage and her father’s Nigerian and Yoruba background.
How can one “find home” between East and West? How can we move beyond the binaries that have structured the modern representation of the world? How can we inhabit the planet after centuries of colonialism, slavery and exploitation?
Akomolafe acknowledges the persistence of mechanisms of power, control and extraction, and proposes a different point of view: neither external to complexity nor aimed at simplifying it, but willing to inhabit its contradictions. His place of enunciation is the in-between, the meanwhile: a space-time situated between things and within their cracks.
In this “in-between space” is situated Oriente Occidente’s new curatorial perspective for the 2027-2029, where the three dimensions that constitute OO - Studio, People and Festival - are envisioned as an interdependent ecosystem, in which artistic research, community engagement practices and the festival are connected, forming part of an organic curatorial discourse.
The open call is addressed to artists, collectives and companies of any geographical origin and with any physical condition (accessibility to workspaces will be ensured as best as we can) working in the field of performing arts, whose research focuses on the body and movement.
For 2027, the call is structured around three distinct proposals or research strands:

PARTICIPATORY RESIDENCIES – 1 selected project
RESEARCH RESIDENCIES – 3 selected projects

How to apply at the call
It is possible to apply for one or more research strands of the open call by completing the relevant application form for each strand. Only one project proposal may be submitted for each research strand.
Applications must be submitted by 18 November 2026 at 2.00 p.m. (CET). The results of the selection process will be communicated by 18 December 2026.
