It all started with a duet, arising from the urge to discover and connect. And yet, what happens if a couple becomes a community? If a day trip aspires to become the journey of a lifetime?
According to Pablo Girolami, dancer and choreographer with Italian-Spanish origins and formerly a professional dancer at the Hessisches Staatsballett in Wiesbaden/Darmstadt, the answer lies in connecting with nature, listening to our primordial instincts and looking for our roots to be strong and firm as we look to the future.
After the success at the Vetrina della giovane danza d’autore in Ravenna, promoted by the Anticorpi network in 2021, and after being shortlisted for Danza Urbana XL, Pablo Girolami comes back to Oriente Occidente with IVONA, proposing a site-specific version of the quintet that combines the sensuality of courtship with an investigation into the ensuing social conflicts. All this is enhanced by ethnic and traditional music amplified by the rhythm of clubbing and of dub music.
My choreographic language is inspired by the animal world and what interests me most is courtship. I think it is not we humans who invented art or dance, I think this art form originates from animals.
In case of rain, the show will be performed in the square of the Mart - Museo di arte moderna e contemporanea di Trento e Rovereto.
