Naples and Marseille, Mediterranean Cities

Marcello Anselmo

The sea that washes both Naples and Marseille is the same. Two cities similar in orography, population, contradictions, and complexities. Two cities that have always been the object of both attraction and repulsion in their respective countries. Two cities that remain eternally unexplored yet decidedly over-narrated.

The discussion retraces the recent history of two poets, set against the backdrop of the same body of water, through historical, geographical, urban, and literary trajectories.

The event is moderated by Federico Zappini.

Marcello Anselmo, historian (PhD in History and Civilization/IUE) and researcher at Mmsh / Telemme / Aix-Marseille Université, specializes in the creation and production of radio documentaries. He has become an author, director, and program manager for RaiRadio3, as well as an author for ReteDue of Swiss Italian Radio (RSI) and the German broadcaster WDR. His radio work is complemented by his ongoing research and attention to the dynamics of urban and social transformation in cities, with his professional activity consistently focused on the study of historical dynamics.

Project realized in collaboration with Mart - Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art of Trento and Rovereto, Limes, and Libreria Piccoloblu.
