How do we make sense of our existence? How do you play with the dizziness caused by this sense of emptiness? Hervé Koubi knows the answer: you dance. Better if with other people. Better still if these people are different from us and the encounter, in the movement, becomes a melting pot.
The French Algerian choreographer arrives at Oriente Occidente with his new work: Sol Invictus, a generous piece full of vital energy, performed by 17 dancers on stage who come from Europe, Brazil, Asia, North Africa and the United States. It crosses language and cultural boundaries - as well as those of classical codes, of urban dance and acrobatics - and offers a way out.
Having grown up in an atmosphere of silence, Koubi formed his company as a forum to raise questions. It is an outlet, he says, "to share with the public the issues that touch me".
