Teatro alla Cartiera

Lo schiaccianoci

Rethinking a great classic of the late Romantic ballet repertoire, The Nutcracker, in a contemporary key, reinterpreting the original by Petipa-Ivanov-Tchaikovsky with modern fervor. Young Italian choreographers Tommaso Monza and Claudia Rossi Valli have taken up their magic wands to reimagine the quintessential Christmas ballet dedicated to childhood. Purists will need to make an effort to distance themselves from tradition to enjoy this Nutcracker, which connects to key symbols of the archetype, reinterprets E.T.A. Hoffmann's story Nussknacker und Mäusekönig, and approaches the theme of the transition from childhood to adulthood through a series of questions. Have the dreams we had as children come true? Are we who we imagined we would become? Have we fulfilled our expectations? Are we truly who we wanted to be?
On stage, we will see extravagant characters encountering their own selves, their dreams, and failures. The divertissements of the second act will not be missing, but it will not take place in the Land of Sweets; instead, it will showcase new dances shaped by the performers in a contemporary context.
