Nagorno Karabakh: la contesa infinita nel cuore del Caucaso

Emanuele Giordana

After a brief outline of a geographical region crossed by multiple conflicts (Georgia, Chechnya, etc.), the events that led to a confrontation between Armenians and Azeris will be analysed. Regional and international alliances, the recurring wars fought between the two countries and the propaganda of the two states (especially in the EU and the US) will be outlined. Not forgetting the plight of the victims and displaced persons.

The cue will serve as a reminder of how such protracted disputes, resting on the barrel of a gun rather than on dialogue, can not only result in yet another conflict but, as the Ukrainian case teaches us, can infect neighbouring areas and reawaken dossiers that have ended tragically, like the Chechen one, in blood. An invitation to think or rethink diplomatic and dialogue mechanisms that can guarantee the world peace and security.

The meeting is part of an entire day dedicated to Armenia that will include, at 11 a.m., the institutional meeting for the official accession of the Republic of Armenia to the Maria Dolens Memorandum of Peace, in the presence of Ambassador Tsovinar Hambardzumyan.
