Vahan Badalyan
Graduated at Yerevan State Institute of Theatre and Cinema Arts in his native Armenia, Vahan Badalyan, later furthered his studies in France. Since 2001, he has been the founder and artistic director of the Small Theatre Company of National Centre of Aesthetics and runs the Theatre School attached to it. The company was founded about 20 years ago as a theatre studio with the mission, then as now, to produce independent and creative works and to become a point of reference for young people interested in exploring the theatre arts by offering various educational programmes.
Since 2006, he has been invited as a lecturer in important national and international institutions such as Yerevan State Institute of Theater and Cinema Arts, United World College Dilijan, AYB School and Salerno School of Higher Education. He has received several awards with his company including the main national theatre prize ARTAVAZD for the performances of "Diary of a Madman" (2007), "Ophelia's Shadow Theatre" (2008) and "Don't Leave Me" (2015).
What effect does color have on our physiology and psychology?
Is it true that giving preference to one color or another, we only imagine that we are free in our choice, but in fact we are in the power of color?
When we talk about the power of color do we exactly understand what it is and how it works?
The Armenian company NCA Small Theatre directed by Vahan Badalyan began the search for answers to these questions on Monday 12 September in our studio with an artistic residency.
Defining colour is not an easy task. Not only because its conception has changed with the ages and societies over the centuries, but also because colour has always been perceived differently on all continents. Each culture sees and determines colours according to its natural environment and climate, based on its history, accumulated knowledge and traditions.
This autobiographical and documentary research project aims to express emotions, thoughts, events and life experiences through colours and features eight performers with and without disabilities who physically and visually recreate their personal life stories associated with different colours.
On Tuesday 13 and Wednesday 14, some people with mental disabilities from the area also participated in the work sessions together with the company, thanks to the collaboration with the Progetto Macramé, of the Villa Maria Cooperative of Rovereto.
