International Dance Day 2026

International Dance Day 2026

Dance moves across eras, cultures, and generations.
It changes shape, transforms itself, yet continues to tell who we are, where we come from, and how we experience the present.

On the occasion of International Dance Day, Wednesday, April 29, Rovereto celebrates this richness through the languages that the city’s associations study and practice every day.

Bringing this event to life are the many local organizations that love dance. Alongside us and Compagnia Abbondanza/Bertoni, there are Artea, Armonia per lo studio e lo sviluppo della persona APS, Associazione Rosario, Azione Danza – CDM, Peña Andaluza, Progetto Tango, Scarpette Gialle, Scuola Musicale Il Diapason di Trento, Swing Dance Trento, with the patronage of the Municipality of Rovereto, within the Settimana Civica di Rovereto.

The program opens with Compagnia Abbondanza/Bertoni, in collaboration with VAN, making the creative process of their new performance visible. A moment to approach contemporary dance in the act of becoming, where movement is not yet a finished form but a process in motion—between experimentation, listening, and transformation.

From the freer practices of modern and contemporary dance, where movement opens to research and exploration of the body in space, to the codified forms of classical dance, built on balance, control, and precision of gesture: Scarpette Gialle, CDM – Azione Danza, Artea, and Scuola Musicale Il Diapason give voice to this meeting of techniques and visions.

The body percussion of Charles Raszl, artistic director of Collettivo Rosario, brings rhythm to the center: the body becomes instrument, percussion, voice.

The urban energy of hip hop, presented by Azione Danza – CDM Rovereto, arises from street culture and brings rhythm, identity, and sharing to the stage through ever-evolving languages.

Oriental dances, with their ancient roots and strong expressive component, take shape in the performance “Fleurs” by Armonia, through fluidity, body isolations, and traditional memory.

With Peña Andaluza, flamenco expresses the full strength of its origins: a language made of music, voice, and movement, where the body engages directly and intensely with rhythm.

The milonga, presented by Progetto Tango, is a continuous encounter and tension between two bodies, based on mutual listening and shared construction of movement.

Closing the event, Swing Dance Trento brings the energy of jazz and social dance with lindy hop, turning movement into play, relationship, and shared rhythm.

A sequence of practices and visions that reflects the richness and variety of dance.

An opportunity to discover, observe, and get closer.
Because every dance tells something—
also about us.

The associations involved

Associazione Rosario
was founded out of the desire of the members of Collettivo Rosario to integrate and blend the artistic-performative, educational, and training aspects that define their individual paths. It organizes performances, CircleSong sessions, choirs, workshops in body music, dance, and movement classes throughout Italy. Its activities reflect a commitment to promoting the value of art and human connection through multiple languages and forms: dance, singing, movement, body music, and music education.

Artea is a vibrant cultural hub in the heart of Rovereto, where art and wellbeing meet. Since 2008, it has passionately promoted Dance, Theatre, and Cinema, alongside holistic disciplines such as Yoga, Pilates, and Taiji Quan. In its space on Corso Bettini, Artea creates opportunities for growth, expression, and sharing, becoming a welcoming place to cultivate creativity, harmony, and authentic relationships.

Peña Andaluza is an association founded in Rovereto in 1995 with the aim of promoting flamenco and Spanish culture. Since then, it has organized courses in baile, cante, guitarra, and percussion under the guidance of internationally renowned Spanish artists. Known in Italy and abroad for its workshops and performances, it collaborates with public institutions, universities, the International Centre R. Zandonai, and other organizations in Italy, Spain, Germany, and Réunion Island. It is a member of the CID UNESCO in Paris. Courses are currently held in Rovereto and Riva del Garda.

Scarpette Gialle was founded in 2011 in Rovereto with the aim of engaging all those who love dance. Operating in the Avio area, it offers creative dance/play-dance activities, modern and contemporary dance, and summer camps.

Swing Dance Trento is an association that promotes the culture of swing music and dance in Trentino. Inspired by Lindy Hop—born in the 1920s–30s in Harlem ballrooms—it organizes events, courses, and collaborations with the aim of bringing people together through the magic of swing, viewing dance as a tool for connection, solidarity, and enjoyment.

Progetto Tango, founded by Sabina and Giulio, is a space where tango becomes experimentation, study, social interaction, discovery, spontaneity, and improvisation.

CDM – Centro Didattico Musicateatrodanza of Rovereto was founded in 1987 as a multidisciplinary institution in the fields of music, dance, and theatre. Through Azione Danza, it enriches the program with performances of classical, contemporary, and hip hop dance.

Armonia was founded in 1996 with the aim of fostering awareness and stimulating creativity by offering tools to listen to the body and explore its infinite potential. Within Armonia, the company Il mondo di Lilith, directed by Francesca Miceli (known as Lilith), was created, pursuing research on femininity and the spirituality of the body. Lilith offers pathways in traditional Egyptian and other Arab dance styles, as well as tribal fusion, creative oriental dance, and gipsy dance (Southern Italy and the Balkans), culminating in “Cromodanza: dancing the colors of the soul.”

Scuola Musicale Il Diapason di Trento, active since 1989, is a key educational and cultural institution for basic music training in the Trentino area. It offers programs for all ages, from early childhood to adulthood, promoting choral practice, instrumental study, ensemble music, dance, and various interdisciplinary projects. Alongside its educational work, it enhances the artistic, editorial, and social dimensions of music, collaborating with schools, bands, and local communities.
