Chiara Bersani & Danskompaniet Spinn

Chiara Bersani is an Italian artist working in the performing arts. Her formative path takes place mainly in the field of theatrical research with influences from contemporary dance and performing art.

Suffering a moderate form of Osteogenesis Imperfecta, she is interested in the political meaning that a body can just take with its own image when interacting with the society. As an outcome of this considerations took place the inquiry path on the Political Body, started in 2013.

The collaborations with other artists and organizations are one of the key features of her artistic career. Among the most durable collaborations are those with Marco D’Agostin, Matteo Ramponi, Babilonia Teatri, Alessandro Sciarroni, Jérôme Bel and Rodrigo Garcia.

Chiara Bersani is co-founder, in 2020, of Al Di Qua - Alternative Disability Quality Artists, the first Italian association of performing arts artists and workers with disabilities.

Danskompaniet Spinn is a professional dance company, based in Gothenburg (Sweden), with dancers with and without disabilities.

Spinn was founded in 2010 by Artistic Director Veera Suvalo Grimberg. It is an international company working with Swedish and international choreographers and composers. Spinn works with people who are interested in an artistic dialogue, and who want to explore and develop both their own as well as the company artistic expression. Their research is about different bodies and new ways of creating and presenting dance art.

The choreographer Chiara Bersani is at Oriente Occidente Studio in 2019 for an initial period of research, in August, during which she works alone on a concept linked to ports, to the moorings of ships, to the greetings of bodies, to the world seen from afar, to the theme of waiting, of staying, of not knowing how to act.

This first gestation led to a second period of artistic residence, in September, with the Swedish company Danskompaniet Spinn for a contamination of languages and to develop a shared choreographic research.

Thus began to take shape Moby Dick, a co-production of Oriente Occidente, born within the European project Europe Beyond Access and premiered in Rovereto during the 41st edition of Oriente Occidente Dance Festival in 2021.

The project is supported by Europe Beyond Access Creative Europe and Fondazione Caritro. Cassa di Risparmio di Trento e Rovereto.
